The Geneva School is not a church, but we do conduct weekly chapel services. It is good for the people of God to worship together, especially in age appropriate settings that encourage the students to grow in their understanding of, and appreciation for, the praise of God.
At the Early Childhood Campus the kindergarten students meet every Wednesday morning for chapel. The theme this year is taken from Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. They are learning how the word of God will always help them to stay on the right path of obedience in following Him. In chapel, students and teachers praise God through prayer, song, Bible stories, and recitation. In January the Pre-K students will join the kindergarteners and the entire Early Childhood Campus will meet together for the remainder of the year.
Mrs. Kathy Muether, Geneva’s Librarian, leads Chapel in first and second grade. In these weekly times Kathy is able to use her rich literary background, her rapport with the students as their Librarian, plus her experience in the church to effectively communicate the scriptures to these young students. Her theme for the first grade chapel time for the 2009-2010 school is the Attributes of God. In the second grade she is discussing how God keeps His promises. The second grade students will join the older grammar school students in the gym during the second semester.
Grammar school students in grades 3–6 meet weekly for chapel. During the fall semester of the 2009-2010 school year, Headmaster Rev. Robert Ingram is leading the students through the book of Proverbs as they explore the need for biblical wisdom.
Chapel is held every other week for Dialectic (grades 7 & 8) and Rhetoric (grades 9–12) students. Primarily lead by Headmaster Rev. Robert Ingram, the topic of the homilies this year is cultivating biblical piety—a theme which was developed significantly by John Calvin in his work and writings. The week Dialectic is in chapel, Rhetoric will meet with their discipleship group, and vica versa, enabling Rev. Ingram to minister to all the Upper School students through their time in chapel. The discipleship groups are led by staff and faculty members to discuss issues surrounding the chapel homily from the previous week. Discipleship groups are organized by grade level and gender and normally have no more than nine students in a group.
