2008-2009 marks the tenth year of competitive, upper school athletics at The Geneva School. Our program has expanded from ten teams competing in six sports in 1999 to 23 teams competing in 12 sports this year. This is an excellent achievement, but there is still much work ahead of us as the school continues to grow. We are full members of the FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) and this year we will compete in the state series (district play) in 9 of our 12 sports.
I have had the privilege of serving as Geneva’s Athletic Director since 1999 and I am extremely proud to have played a part in establishing these programs. Along the way, we have been blessed with outstanding coaches, willing and able bodied student athletes, and extremely supportive parents. With these key ingredients I look to the near and distant future with great anticipation and excitement.
At Geneva the athletes are challenged to practice and play with a purpose (to honor God in effort, attitude, actions, and reactions), with a passion (that recognizes that their talents and abilities are God-given), and with a patience (towards opponents, teammates, coaches, and officials) that demonstrates a consistent testimony of Christ-likeness. As Christians, the athletes and coaches represent not only The Geneva School, but their Savior Jesus Christ, their families, and themselves.
As our school grows in size and maturity, we will work hard to provide the best and broadest athletic experience possible. The Geneva School athletic programs will always compete with the intent to succeed, but spiritual growth reflecting the image of Christ and glorifying His holy name will remain the primary goals of all those associated with TGS athletics.
