Principal Course Objectives
  • To cultivate an understanding of music as a gift from God intended to be
    used as an aesthetic manifestation of His goodness, truth and beauty.
  • To cultivate a desire to image God in our creative endeavors, for His glory
    and mankind’s pleasure.
  • To explore and recognize the fundamental elements of music—rhythm,
    melody, harmony, texture, and form.
  • To build a working vocabulary of musical terms.
  • To identify the symbols used in music notation and develop a f uency in
    reading music.
  • To expose students to the flow of music history through the biographies
    of various composers.
  • To explore the role of music in various cultures, current and past.
