BIBLE

  • A biblical study of the godly attributes of signifi cant personalities in the Old Testament (first semester)
  • A study of the life of Jesus from birth to the resurrection (second semester)
MEMORY WORK
  • Selected Bible passages including Ps. 95, poetry, hymns, and unit-related songs
LANGUAGE ARTS
  • Literature-rich environment focusing on classic children’s stories read by the teacher to develop oral skills and an appreciation for quality literature.
  • Individualized reading program enabling children to progress at their own
    pace.
  • Strong phonics program including recognition of letter sounds of individual
    letters, blends, phonograms, and digraphs. Encode and decode words with an awareness of beginning, middle, and ending sounds.
  • Comprehensive spelling program using age-appropriate strategies to learn the conventional spelling of high-frequency and unit- related words.
  • Writing and publishing a variety of original books including expository,
    autobiography, biography, and non-fi ction books.
  • Comprehensive strategies including retelling stories orally and reenacting
    stories through dramatic presentations.
MATH
  • Math Their Way curriculum, using concrete objects before moving to abstract symbols to understand various number concepts, patterns, word problems, addition and subtraction to ten.
SCIENCE
  • Experiments related to units, encouraging formation of a hypothesis based on previous knowledge and recognition of the steps in the scientific process. Topics include plants, weather, animal classification, zoo animal classification, the fi ve senses and the four seasons.
SOCIAL STUDIES
  • Geography: Map skills including naming and locating the seven continents
    and the Pacifi c and Atlantic Oceans.
  • Economics: Organizing and operating a business including borrowing money, advertising and learning principles of supply and demand.
  • Awareness of occupations in a community and operating actual businesses: job
    applications, work schedules, godly work habits, etc.
  • Identifying different forms of transportation and learning about the moveable parts of an airplane that enable it to fly.
