The Geneva School believes that uniforms play an important role in maintaining a culture conducive to cultivating virtuous scholars. In many respects the uniform is the face of Geneva. Uniforms encourage a sense of school identity and cohesion and also help to raise the standards of the school’s academic and cultural pursuits. Rather than expressing themselves through fleeting youth fashion, students at Geneva are expected to express themselves through their good attitudes and behavior, keen minds, and willing hearts. Like doctors, nurses, athletes, firefighters, military, and chefs, students at The Geneva School wear uniforms.
-
A student must to be in full uniform from the time he or she exits the car in the morning until he or she is in the car on the way home, unless students are changing clothes for an athletic practice or game.
- All uniform items except socks, tights, belts, and shoes should be purchased from Educational Outfitters.
- Uniforms must be worn at all times (including field trips) unless the Dean of Students gives permission otherwise.
- If a student is not in uniform for a reason authorized by the Dean of Students (i.e. a no uniform day or a field trip where wearing uniform would not be practical), they are expected to be prudent in their choice of dress. Jeans and t-shirts are not permitted unless express permission has been granted by the Dean of Students.
- The Dean of Students is the final arbiter of whether a student is in compliance with this dress policy.

“Relaxed” Friday Options: Educational Outfitters stocks a TGS monogrammed Polo shirt in two colors: navy with khaki trim & white with navy trim. Students may continue to wear TGS monogrammed Polo shirts previously purchased from the school. A TGS monogrammed or club/team sweater or sweatshirt will only be permitted on Fridays.
Shoes/Socks/Tights: In keeping with our uniform philosophy, when it comes to shoes, the word is conservative. Students should wear shoes to school that are comfortable and practical. That is not to say they cannot be stylish, but school is not the place for high fashion.
Chapel Day: Students are required to wear dress shoes on chapel days.
Girls: Solid black, brown, white, or navy dress shoes, with heels no bigger than 2".
Boys:Solid black or brown dress shoes.
Non-Chapel Days: Students are encouraged to wear dress shoes (in the colors listed above) for the remainder of the week, however, on non-chapel days sneakers or any conservative style shoe (girls: solid black, brown, white, or navy, boys: solid black, brown, or white) is permitted. Boots, platform shoes, heels over 2”, flip-flops, and shoes with excessive decoration or bright laces are not permitted.
Socks/Tights: White socks are the standard for both boys and girls, however when wearing dress shoes boys should wear black or brown dress socks. In cold weather, girls may wear solid white or navy knee-length socks, panty hose in a natural flesh color, or solid navy tights. Leggings are not permitted.
Appearance: Male students must have a natural (but may be dyed) color hair of one color; wear their hair neatly combed above the collar, eyebrows, and ears; and style it in a way that is consistent with the spirit of this policy. They should wear socks and proper underclothing, and keep shirts tucked in. Male students may not wear earrings or grow facial hair. Female students must have a natural (but may be dyed) color hair of one color; wear proper underclothing; and keep shirts tucked in. Female students may not keep excessively long fingernails or paint them radically. Jewelry must be simple and tasteful.
