Children are naturally curious and eager to learn about the world in which they live. At The Geneva School, we strive to encourage their God-given sense of wonder by providing a rich and inviting learning environment that fully engages the young student: heart, mind, and body. Our classical pedagogy is tailored to appeal to all aspects of our students’ humanity, engaging all five senses and creating an experiential learning environment that is both rigorous and fun.
The backbone of our curriculum—around which all other areas of knowledge revolve—is history. First grade is transitional from early childhood to the grammar school and focuses its history and science curriculum on the state of Florida. The Western narrative timeline officially begins in second grade, where we begin by learning about the creation of the world and the spread of nations and cultures, in particular Egypt’s and Mesopotamia’s glory and fall. As students progress through the grade levels, they encounter classical civilization, the early church, the Middle Ages, the early and late modern periods, and American history. Math, science, literature, and language are then correlated with history, giving students a fully integrated understanding of the world they are studying.
Our curriculum is designed to help students develop skills in problem-solving, creative thinking, logical analysis, and basic reasoning. The Geneva School employs dedicated specialists to teach Latin, Greek, science, art, drama, library, music and PE. Home room teachers teach the core courses of bible, history, math, literature, grammar, and writing. Additionally all students memorize the Scriptures, which provides the all-encompassing context for the pursuit and integration of the individual disciplines: to grow in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, for the glory of God and the good of our neighbors.
