The Upper School moves students towards the culmination of Geneva’s classical curriculum: the Rhetoric School (grades 9-12), whose mission is to cultivate mastery of the written and spoken word, whether that word be in philosophy, literature, foreign language, mathematics, or the natural sciences. Geneva seeks to spur its students towards excellence in their college preparatory experience, an excellence modeled by our highly qualified and motivated faculty, which includes three held doctorates and twelve master’s degrees.
Geneva’s curriculum is challenging and comprehensive in its coverage of the classical liberal arts—inclusive of the natural sciences or, as they were formerly known, natural philosophy. While Rhetoric constitutes the capstone of the curriculum and Grammar (grades K-6) can be considered the foundation, Dialectic (grades 7-8) can be likened to the support structure. In the dialectic years, students learn to organize their knowledge coherently while continuing to encounter new and exciting knowledge. This organization imparts coherence to our Rhetoric, and wisdom and understanding to our words and actions.
The ultimate goal of The Geneva School is to train up wise and eloquent disciples of Christ. Through our commitment to the traditional western liberal arts curriculum, to “the faith once delivered to the saints,” and to maintenance of our high standards through the cultivation of excellence in our faculty, we unceasingly strive toward that goal.
