College Representative Visits
During the fall and early spring admission representatives from colleges around the country visit with Geneva students. Visitations are scheduled during lunch in Mr. Marsh’s room unless otherwise noted. All current TGS Juniors are required to attend. Sophomores and Seniors are encouraged to attend. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Fulmer.
Visits are posted on the calendar and announced to students in morning announcements.
College Night
The Geneva School’s annual college night is scheduled for Monday, August 29, 2011, from 6:30–8:00 pm in the choir room at Aloma Church worship center (WC105).
All 11th grade students and at least one parent are required to attend this important meeting. It is recommended for all 10th and 12th grade students and parents. All information will be presented from both a private and state school admissions perspective. This information will address, but not be limited to, the following topics:
- the role of the admissions counselor,
- the admissions process (incl. early action, early decision, regular and rolling admissions, deferred entrance),
- who makes the decision for admission,
- finding the right school/meeting your needs,
- campus visitations/tours, the college essay,
- extra curricular activities,
- the perspective of standardized test scores (SAT vs. ACT, SAT II) and GPA,
- selecting a major/double majors (looking into specific departments/programs),
- need-based vs. merit scholarships,
- the common application,
- the honors program,
- AP credit,
- CLEP,
- housing-dorms/resident options,
- letters of recommendation,
- freshman advisement,
- meeting deadlines.
This is your opportunity to direct any questions that you may have to the admissions counselors who are actively and directly involved in the admissions decision-making process.
College Financial Aid Meeting
The Geneva School’s annual college financial aid meeting will be held on Monday, January 9, 2011, from 6:30–8:00 pm.
The rules of the financial aid game are forever changing, thus we have created the perfect opportunity for parents and students to address questions and concerns following a presentation given by an expert from a university/college Office of Financial Aid. All aspects of financial aid will be addressed, including, but not limited to:
- FAFSA,
- CSS Profile,
- government programs (state and federal),
- institution (private and state) based programs,
- work-study programs,
- scholarships,
- grants,
- loans,
- Florida Bright Futures,
- eligibility,
- cost of attendance (COA) vs. Estimated Family Contribution (EFC),
- roll of the Financial Aid Office,
- and deadlines.
The financial aid process can seem daunting, even for the bravest of souls, and at the very least confusing. While all interested parents are welcome, we strongly advise all parents and students in the junior and senior year to make every effort to attend.
