Student Supplies
SUPPLIES FOR K4–6th GRADE (2020–2021)
School supplies necessary for students in K4–6th grade are purchased and placed in classrooms ready for the first day of school. The cost of supplies is added to an activity fee divided between two payments billed to accounts in September and January. Geneva benefits both from our tax-exempt status and bulk pricing. The cost is no more than $50 per student.
ITEMS NOT INCLUDED IN ACTIVITY FEE BILLING: At each grade level, there are a few items that are not included in the activity fee billing. These are items that parents supply and other items that may or may not need to be replenished every year. Click HERE for the list of items not included at each grade level for the 2020–2021 school year.
The following are items that may need to be replenished this year, and are available from the SCHOOL STORE:
- Portfolio Bag (K–2nd grade) – $13: Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students who are new to The Geneva School should purchase a portfolio bag. Returning kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students may use a portfolio bag purchased in a previous year or purchase a new one. Please Note: This item is included in the K4 supply package, so K4 parents do not need to purchase one.
- Grammar School Sketchbook (2nd–6th grade) – $8: 2nd–6th grade students who are new to The Geneva School should purchase a sketchbook. Returning students may use a sketchbook purchased in a previous year or purchase a new one.

DEVICE REQUIREMENTS FOR 6th–12th GRADE
Families who are considering purchasing a new device are encouraged to purchase a Chromebook. Due to its compact size, excellent battery life, and low cost (frequently available for under $200), a Chromebook is the ideal device for the classroom. An optimal Chromebook for students has an 11.6 inch display and 4GB or more of memory.
Alternatives such as laptops running Microsoft Windows, MacBooks, and iPads are acceptable if the device meets the following requirements:
- A physical keyboard to facilitate writing
- A screen size of at least 7 inches, and no more than 17.3 inches
- A battery that provides a minimum of 3 hours of working time between charges (and preferably at least 6 hours). As an expectation of class preparation, the battery would be required to be fully charged at the beginning of each day.
- Ability to connect to Google Drive
Please Note: Yearbook/Journalism students interested in graphic design as well as video editing and all Digital Photography students should have a PC or Mac laptop.
Students in 6th grade are given a Google Apps for Education account, and they are expected to have access to a computer with internet capabilities and a printer at home.
Students in 7th–12th grade are given a Google Apps for Education account and they are required to have their own device to bring to school for classroom assignments. In addition to their own device, students should have access to the internet and a printer at home. This is the primary tool for student writing and presentation throughout the year.
PORTFOLIOS AND BACKPACKS
Students in 3rd–12th grade require a backpack. Wheeled backpacks are not permitted at The Geneva School. Dialectic and rhetoric students should learn to use their locker effectively to minimize the load they must carry. If your child requires a medical exemption to this policy, you may submit an exemption form to the director of the grammar school or the director of the upper school.
