Cal Dilworth

Science Teacher

Cal Dilworth joined the upper school science faculty in 2025 and teaches honors chemistry and AP Environmental Science in the rhetoric school. Prior to joining TGS, Cal worked at Gainesville High School for four years teaching introductory, AP, and A-Level Cambridge chemistry courses as well as honors and regular chemistry. He enjoys teaching through the implementation of labs while also cultivating his students' abilities to take effective notes and think critically.

Feeling called to teach high school chemistry, Cal began studying at the University of Florida in 2016. He earned a BS in chemistry with a minor in UFTeach Science—a career-readiness minor that placed him in classrooms around Gainesville to gain teaching experience. After graduating, he promptly accepted an opportunity as an adjunct instructor at P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School as a middle school digital art and design teacher for one semester. During this time, Cal decided to go back to UF for graduate school and, still feeling called to teach high school chemistry, accepted a chemistry teaching position at Gainesville High School. In 2022, Cal graduated from UF with an MA in science education.

Cal is a third-culture kid who grew up overseas and attended a boarding school in Kijabe, Kenya. It was at this school that he discovered his love for chemistry and passion for helping others learn. In his free time, Cal enjoys cooking Korean food, playing the piano, learning Arabic, spending time with his family, and perfecting his coffee pour-over technique.
