Sixth Grade Teacher
Dennis Whalen joined the 6th grade teaching team in 2026 with a primary focus of math instruction. Prior to coming to Geneva, he taught math to middle school students in Seminole County Public Schools for 37 years, serving in various leadership positions at the school level as well as on district level committees. Dennis earned the Teacher of the Year award at both Teague Middle School and Indian Trails Middle School. He has a bachelor's in education from the University of South Florida and is state certified in math and endorsed in gifted education.
Dennis desires to provide a learning environment that encourages student growth and development, both academically and spiritually, and one that engages students to become confident and independent learners.
Dennis and his wife, Debra, have three adult children (Kathryn, Kelsey, and Tim) and five grandchildren. Dennis has officiated high school and college summer baseball for fifteen years, including two state semifinal games and one final. He also assists with the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs baseball program for players 13–14 years of age. This ministry has allowed him to use baseball to share the gospel to many families and develop men of high character on and off the field. Dennis and Debra attend Action Church and lead a weekly Bible study with families from Winter Park Diamond Dawgs.
