History Teacher
Micah Bellamy came to The Geneva School in 2025 and currently teaches Western Civilization II to tenth graders and US History to eleventh graders. Prior to Geneva, he taught ancient civilizations, modern world history, US history, US government, and AP Government and Politics at a local private school. Along with his work at Geneva, Micah is also an associate professor of history at Valencia College, where he continues to teach US history survey courses.
Micah’s research interests are US history, US military history, African American history, and the intersection of faith and identity in civic participation. He holds a PhD in history from Liberty University. His dissertation, “Becoming Men, Consequently: From “Contraband” to Men Through Naval Service in the American Civil War,” explores how African American sailors—free-born and formerly enslaved—used the potential that naval service provided during the Civil War to secure their manhood, dignity, and place in American society. He also holds an MEd in teaching and learning history and a BS in Bible and theology.
Micah’s research has been presented at several national conferences, including the Society for Military History and the McMullen Naval History Symposium at the United States Naval Academy. His peer-reviewed research addresses the nexus of masculinity, military service, and social change in American history. In addition to academia, Micah has spent fifteen years working as a paramedic in Central Florida. He has coached multiple athletics and led a church-based youth ministry.
Micah and his wife, Rachel, have three children: Wesley (’30), Mason (’33), and Avery (’35). He enjoys reading biographies, watching college football, and exploring new historical locations with his family.
