Non-Geneva Student Athletes

Athletic Opportunities for 6th–12th Grade Non-Geneva Students

The Geneva School Athletic Department has proudly welcomed non-TGS students to be a part of our middle school, JV, and varsity athletics for many years. The FHSAA now allows students who attend non FHSAA schools to participate with a private school of their choice. We believe the key to building and maintaining relationships with our non-TGS student athletes and their families is treating them just like enrolled Geneva students. One team, one family: Geneva Knights!

Non-Traditional Student Tryout Policy

The Geneva School is committed to providing athletic participation opportunities for both Geneva students and eligible non-traditional students in accordance with Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regulations.

Because Geneva’s athletics program exists primarily to serve enrolled Geneva students, participation opportunities for non-traditional students are limited by the number of Geneva students who participate in each sport.

For each team, the coaching staff will determine the desired roster size. After Geneva student participation is confirmed on day one of tryouts, any remaining roster positions may be made available to eligible non-traditional students.

As a result:

  • Geneva students will be considered first when establishing the team roster.

  • Non-traditional students may only compete for roster positions that remain available after Geneva student participation is determined.

  • The number of available positions for non-traditional students cannot be known until Geneva student attendance at tryouts is confirmed.

  • Non-traditional students should not attend the first day of tryouts. Instead, if roster spots remain available after day one, a separate tryout for eligible non-traditional students will be held on day two. This will be clearly communicated to all non-traditional students prior to tryouts.

  • If the number of non-traditional students trying out exceeds the number of available roster positions (as determined on day one), coaches will select those students they believe best fit the team’s needs.

The Geneva School accepts participation from non-Geneva student athletes under the bylaws of section 9 of the FHSAA handbook. Non-Geneva students in 6th–12th grade may try out for middle school, JV, and varsity teams.

All non-Geneva participants must complete the following requirements before trying out for a team:
