Student Support
Student Support
The Geneva School is a caring community of faith and learning. Students are at the heart of everything that we do and are the reason that we exist as a school. We are grateful to the parents who have entrusted the faculty and staff with the opportunity to partner (in loco parentis) with them in the formation of their children. We recognize that all students will have times when they experience great success and times when they are dealing with formidable challenges. Learning, growing, and maturing through the middle school and high school years inevitably come with challenges, adversity, and hard-won successes that build character and confidence.
As part of a caring community of faith and learning, the goal of the student support team is to come alongside students and help them navigate their Geneva journeys. We do this by helping students with their academic needs; striving to motivate our students to seek after the good, the true, and the beautiful; and providing redemptive discipline for our students who need redirection. Most importantly, we encourage our students in their growing Christian faith that they may know and imitate Christ.
The student support team includes Peter Vande Brake (director of academic affairs K4–12), Brittany Barragan (grammar school learning specialist), Kirstie Reston (upper school learning specialist), Isabel O’Driscoll (school counselor/academic support), Scott Thigpen (director of college counseling), Jill Howell (registrar), Sarah Fulginiti (school nurse), and Anne Classe (administrative assistant). The entire faculty and staff are here to support the students, but this team has been blessed with the opportunity to engage more intentionally with Geneva students. If we can help in any way, please contact us!
Blessings,
Peter Vande Brake
Student Support Resources
We recognize that all students will have times when they experience great success and times when they are dealing with formidable challenges. Learning, growing, and maturing inevitably come with challenges, adversity, and hard-won successes that build character and confidence.
TGS is pleased to provide the following support services:
A dedicated reading teacher is provided for those students in the early grammar school who need additional support and time to strengthen language arts skills. Identified students may receive additional help in either an individualized format or in a small-group setting. As the student masters skills, these services may no longer be needed.
Grammar school students and upper school students have access to dedicated learning specialists.
Speech and language services are provided to families who choose to take advantage of these services. Although this service is provided on our campus, it is contracted through a private company and at an extra cost to the parent.
The Office of Academic Support and College Counseling coordinates all of the additional student support services. If your child needs additional help or seeks additional enrichment, the academic support staff will help direct you to the best resource for your child. The Geneva School has relationships with learning specialists, educational psychologists, and occupational therapists.
