Music Teacher
Eric Mendez joined the TGS music faculty in 2022. His duties include directing the dialectic and rhetoric bands, rhetoric orchestra, chamber orchestra, and jazz band.
Eric is a product of Orange County Public Schools, having attended Conway Junior High, Colonial High School, and Valencia Community College. He received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Florida State University in 1988. He holds membership in the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA), Florida Orchestra Association (FOA), National Association for Music Educators (NAfME), and Florida Music Education Association (FMEA).
Prior to working at Geneva, Eric taught middle school band in Central Florida public schools for thirty-four years, holding positions at Lake Gibson Middle School (Lakeland), Jackson Heights Middle School (Oviedo), Discovery Middle School (Orlando), and, finally, at Maitland Middle School for twenty-two years. Throughout his career, Eric’s bands received consistent superior ratings at FBA events. The Maitland Wind Ensemble played to musical standards rarely achieved at the middle school level. The group was chosen to perform a concert hour at the 2010 FMEA convention. In that same year, they also performed at the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) summer convention in Orlando.
Eric is an active adjudicator and clinician, serving districts throughout Florida. He has been an All-County clinician for many Florida counties. He was also chosen to lead the All-State Middle School Honors Band for 2013. In addition, he serves as a sectional coach and substitute orchestra director with the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Alongside his duties at Geneva, Eric is a devoted husband to his wife, Angie, a devoted father to his children, Zachary, Hannah, and Claire, and a loving grandfather to his three grandchildren, Jackson (TGS Class of '38), Isla (future TGS Knight), Evelyn (future TGS Knight). He is also active as a leader at Metro Life Church.
