Mike Himes

Music Teacher

Mike Himes joined the Geneva music faculty in 2025. He is an Orlando native and holds a bachelor of music education degree from Florida State University with a semester of French horn performance in their study abroad program in London. He was a member of the US Air Force Concert Band and Brass Quintet from 1998–2007, performing on national tours and recordings and for high-level ceremonial functions in Washington, DC. During this time, Mike also served on his praise team and began worship leading, songwriting, and recording production culminating in Forgetful Masterpiece, an album of original songs on Spotify and Apple Music.

After moving back to Florida in 2007 with his wife, Heather, and three children (Riley, Alina, and Cole), Mike began his teaching career in OCPS as band director at College Park Middle School, receiving numerous awards for program growth and superior student ensembles. He continued diversifying his teaching experience by adding chorus, orchestra, and steel drums classes at Blankner K–8 and Lake Como K–8 schools in Orlando from 2016–2025. He earned his MA in music at UCF in 2019, focusing on music technology and research into optimizing instruction in the K–8 model. Mike is excited to share his breadth of professional music experience both as a performer and educator now teaching rhetoric school guitar, Geneva Jazz, dialectic orchestra, philharmonia orchestra, and running sound production for Geneva’s chapel services.

Mike has led worship at Church Together in Casselberry since 2015. When not teaching, Mike enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, home improvement, fitness, tennis, and a growing hobby as a coffee enthusiast.
